Hey folks, just came across this interesting development in the world of digital IDs. The European Union and Canada have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to work together on mutual recognition of digital credentials, identity wallets, and trust services. This happened during the first EU-Canada Digital Partnership Council meeting.

Key players involved:
- EU side: Represented by Henna Virkkunen (European Commission EVP for Technological Sovereignty, Security and Democracy).
- Canada side: Represented by Evan Solomon (Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Innovation).
- It's also got the thumbs up from the Digital ID & Authentication Council of Canada (DIACC).

The main goals are to align their digital frameworks for better interoperability, making it easier for citizens and businesses to interact across borders. This ties into the Canada-EU Summit Joint Statement from June 23, 2025.

What's next? They'll set up a forum for experts to chat, run joint tests and pilot projects on digital credentials, share best practices, explore new standards, and figure out paths to full mutual recognition. It builds on Canada's recent digital ID framework and the EU's Digital Identity Wallet system.

Overall, this could lead to smoother cross-border digital interactions – think easier travel, business deals, or services without re-verifying identities every time. What do you think – a step toward global digital IDs, or potential privacy concerns?
